RENEWABLE ENERGY

The urgency for a clean energy source is a discussion that has been gaining momentum in recent years.

Colombia is one of the countries with the greatest potential for biogas production in the world. The country also has interest to diversify their Non-Conventional Renewable Energy Sources (FNCER from spanish acronym), type of energy sources that stand out in national policies and in the government plans of recent presidential terms.

At Cleantech Colombia, we bring together relevant entities within the renewable energy sector, promoting collaborations and strategic partnerships and making Colombian companies, associations, public authorities and universities access international markets with their innovative solutions and knowledge.

SANITATION: WASTEWATER & SEWAGE

Despite the considerable advances achieved in recent years, Colombia still faces the lack of coverage of basic sanitation services in the entire territory.

Colombia is located in the group of upper-middle income countries, one of the lowest income countries in the world, with almost total service coverage in urban areas and in the municipal capitals of rural areas, but with a deficit in rural and remote areas.

The World Bank’s most recent study on the coverage of drinking water, sewerage, sanitation and hygiene services concludes that around 2 billion people in the world do not have access to drinking water services, 3.6 billion lack safe sanitation and 2.3 billion lack basic hand washing infrastructure. (WORLD, WATER, 2023).

At Cleantech Colombia, we bring together relevant entities within the sanitation sector and, with that, make sure that Colombian companies, associations, public authorities and universities can have access to international markets with their innovative solutions and knowledge.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY, WASTE & MATERIALS

The growing generation of waste, whether by the industry and/or the final consumer, is one of the great national and international debates.

According to the most recent figures provided by the Superintendencia de Servicios Públicos Domiciliarios, it indicates that in 2020 in Colombia 32,580 tons/day of solid waste will be disposed of, increasing 0.89% with respect to 2019. Likewise, it is estimated that Colombia generates about 12 million tons of waste per year, of which only 17% is recycled.

There is, therefore, an enormous potential to promote the green transition through the sustainable use of materials, making it possible to comply with the priority order of waste management brought about by the National Solid Waste Policy.

At Cleantech Colombia, we bring together relevant entities within the materials and waste sector and ensure that Colombian companies, associations, public authorities and universities can access international markets with their innovative solutions and knowledge.

MARINE COAST

Colombia is one of the five nations with the greatest marine diversity on the planet. Thanks to its biogeographic conditions, it is considered a privileged country because it naturally has coasts on two oceans and a great variety of marine and coastal ecosystems.

Of the 2’070,408 square kilometers of area that the country possesses, 892,102 km2 correspond to jurisdictional waters. The coastline is composed of approximately 3,531 km on the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, extending along twelve departments, with a resident population in coastal and insular areas of about 6,300,000 inhabitants for the year 2019, of which about 87% corresponds to the Caribbean region (Invemar, 2020).

The public policy of the 12 autonomous regional coastal corporations with marine environmental authority functions in COLOMBIA, in accordance with the provisions of Article 208 of Law 1450 of 2011 and the support of the research institutes attached to and linked to the Directorate, focuses its efforts on five fundamental areas: the environment, the environment and the environment. efforts in five fundamental areas:

  • Conserving marine, coastal and insular biodiversity and its ecosystem services.
  • Sustainable use of marine, coastal and island ecosystem services.
  • Improve the quality of marine waters.
  • Reduce the risk associated with the loss of biodiversity and its marine, coastal and insular ecosystem services.
  • Strengthen the institutional framework and public, private and social organization for marine, coastal and island management.

At Cleantech Colombia, we bring together relevant entities working with coastal and marine operations and make sure that Colombian companies, associations, public authorities and universities can access and expand their innovative solutions and knowledge to international markets.

FOOD & BEVERAGE: AGRICULTURE, SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES, AND OTHERS

In Colombia, the food industry is gaining more and more ground. In 2022, it contributed 21.9 trillion Colombian pesos to the manufacturing GDP and reached more than 120 countries. Colombia has been positioning itself as a country with enormous productive potential and is emerging as an agri-food pantry in the world. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Colombia is the fourth country in Latin America in terms of availability of land suitable for agricultural production and the third in terms of water availability and climatic diversity. Also, according to Confecámaras’ Single Business and Social Registry, in 2022 there will be close to 42,940 companies dedicated to food production.

The Chamber of the Food Industry is aware of the relevance of international markets and the potential of the industry to feed not only Colombia but also the world. In 2022 alone, value-added food exports were US$7,083 million, destined for more than 120 countries. The commitment of these companies will be to continue supplying quality food produced in a sustainable way that contributes to the environment and, in turn, has a positive impact on the entire production chain guided by a responsible and competitive commitment.

At Cleantech Colombia, we bring together relevant entities working with food and beverages, focusing on circularity and sustainability, and making sure that Colombian companies, associations, public authorities and universities can access and expand their innovative solutions and knowledge to international markets.
